The brief

A bookbinder wanted to show the work most clients never see — not just the finished volumes, but the hours of folding, sewing, pressing and finishing that go into each one.

We shot tight and slow: hands, tools, thread, the press. The set had to make the craft legible to someone commissioning a piece for the first time — and beautiful enough to live on the shop and commission pages.

"Most people photograph the finished book. They photographed the hours that go into it — the part clients never get to see."
